Pre-1990s

Specialist glovemen. Batting secondary - often batted at 7 or 8.

1999

Adam Gilchrist changed everything. Aggressive opener in Tests, proved keepers could bat.

2000s

Keeper-batsmen became norm. Sangakkara, Dhoni raised expectations further.

Today
